GREENSBORO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND ACTION GREENSBORO RECEIVE
LINCOLN FINANCIAL FOUNDATION GRANTS

Greensboro, NC, 12/15/2016 – The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and Action Greensboro have received two grants totaling $40,000 from the Lincoln Financial Foundation: $20,000 for the Creating New Businesses and New Jobs program and $20,000 for the Opportunity Greensboro Fellows Program.

Creating New Businesses and New Jobs is a program piloted through two initiatives: a Minority Business Accelerator (MBA) and an Entrepreneur Navigator. The MBA focuses on increasing economic equity throughout Greensboro by increasing access to business opportunities for African-American and Hispanic-owned companies and increasing jobs by building a more competitive supply chain for corporations here and beyond our region. The Entrepreneur Navigator is an online tool that will assist local entrepreneurs with navigating the Greensboro Entrepreneurial ecosystem, providing information and links to local and regional programs and offerings as well as a tracking mechanism to help the entrepreneur with individualized services specific to their needs. This grant will also allow the Navigator the opportunity to test adding a personalized touch to the tool.

The Opportunity Greensboro Fellows Program created a formal, centralized pipeline for talent retention in the city, where one centralized platform did not previously exist. The Fellows participate in local, high-quality paid summer internships for 10-weeks, increasing the number of local college students in the workforce. As part of the program, the Fellows participate in the two-day Leonard Kaplan Leadership Institute at the Center for Creative Leadership. In addition, the program offers community engagement opportunities for the Fellows where students can explore all that Greensboro has to offer. Lincoln Financial Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Lincoln Financial Group, believes in empowering people to live greater lives, which advances culture and empowers greater positive change. Its grant is part of Lincoln Financial’s annual $10 million investment in its local communities’ youth education, economic and workforce development, human well-being and arts programs.
